“Black moth with white band”

In early summer woods. Hotaru-ga is one of the moths that you meet on the road. Hotaru means the firefly. It is said that they are similar in appearance. The flapping appearance is clearly different from other moths, with a mixture of black and dark blue.  [JUNE 2021]

Pidorus glaucopis

初夏の雑木林で、たびたび遭遇するホタルガ。名前の由来は、赤い頭部と黒い翅がホタルに似ているから、と言われます。止まっているときは翅の白い帯が目立ちます。飛んでいる様子は、黒と濃青が混じり合い、きれいです。
